This is a quick guide to make a very fast necro for pvm, ideal for Baalruns, Diabloruns and even for some find if you make some changes in his gear.

Stats

Strength: minimum for Marrowwalks (118). Keep in mind that Annihilus is +10/20 str, Shako is +2 and Enigma can be +7x @ very high levels. So, try to put here only a few points.

Dexterity: base.

Vitality: all the rest.

Energy: base.

Skills

MAX Teeth
MAX Corpse explosion (last skill to be maxed)
MAX Bone wall
MAX Bone Spirit
MAX Bone Spear (main attack skill)
1 Bone Armor
absolutely ZERO Bone Prison (or you won't get the benefits from Marrowwalks' bug)

1 Amplify damage

1 Clay Golem
1 Golem Mastery
1 Summon resist

Total: 105 skill points, build completely finished @ level 94 (but even @ level 75, when you have all skills maxed and 1 in CE, you'll be destroyin' everything)

This skill placing is pretty self-explanatory: bone spear will be your main attack skill for crowd control, and you will use Amp+CE for large groups of enemies. When @ level 35+, Corpse explosion has an insane radius and is able to cover an entire screen doing immense damage and destruction in PvM. The golem (and the relative Mastery+Summon resist) is a very good tank when you have the complete gear, plus it's able to slow enemies and is very useful in boss fights.

If you want you can also activate Decrepify, but I've found it totaly useless for this kind of necro. You'll never want to slow enemies, cuz they're dead before they can be near you.

Gear

This is the gear I use, but I know it's very expensive, so at the end I will write some alternatives.

Enigma Light plate
Boneflame +3 all skills with good resists [Um]
Shako [Um]
Boneshade [15 resist all jewel + a good second mod like life or 7 fhr, for example]
Arachnid mesh
Trang gloves
Marrowwalks (the +skills on skeleton mastery and the +str are not important for this build, any Marrowwalks are good)
2x SoJ
Rare amulet with +2 to all Necro skills, 10% faster cast rate and some resists

Switch: Call to arms Crystal Sword + Lidless wall

Charms

Annihilus
As many +1 to P&B skillers as you can (ideal if with life or 12% fhr)
Some resist small charms to have maxed fire / lit res in hell
Some small charms with mana (if they have also life, they're godly)
Some small charms with 5% fhr and a decent second mod

Keep in mind that the interesting bps of fhr for Necro are @ 26% (9 frames) and 39% (8 frames), so use charms to catch those bps.

If you can't afford such items as Boneflame, Enigma or the rare amulet, you can use Homunculus, Vipermagi and a low Mara, and you'll be fine, even if you cannot teleport.

Hireling

Defensive act 2 Merc hired @ Normal difficulty (if you think that the defiance aura is useless, use a Might merc, i.e. Offensive merc hired @ Nightmare).

Low budget gear for your merc:

Any gaze [Shael]
Upg' Shaft [Um]
Eth Bonehew [Shael Shael]

Insanely rich gear for an uber merc:

"Insight" eth Cryptic axe
"Fortitude" eth Archon plate
Eth Andariel's visage [Ral]

You'll never have problems with enemies cuz you'll make 3 different kinds of damage (Magic, Physical and Fire) and you'll be killing all. Your merc will solve the (very rare) problems with magic immunes like Achmel the Cursed; use Amp, when your merc kills one of them use CE and they're dead. Easy.

Good fun, and leveling up. ;)

Heh, CE is the best skill ever. On my summoner, I've maxed it out with a good radius with Amp, and it just annhilates EVERYTHING. Very good idea! (My radius is 11.6 yards, nearly a screen).

Frames / Fhr

12 - - 5
11 - - 10
10 - - 16
9 - - 26
8 - - 39
7 - - 56
6 - - 86
5 - - 152
4 - - 377

This is the table for Necro's fhr, I think that 26% fhr is good and 39% is better, maybe you can use 2 or 3 skillers with 12 fhr but these skillers are expensive, so you can use some small charms with 5% fhr to catch the bp you want (6 or 8 depending on it). :)

I edit the guide now; if you want, you can stick it.

I am bumping this thread to make a request.

I want to make a correction on the 1st post of this thread, but I can't edit it cuz it's a very old post. However, with the new ladder runewords, a little correction is needed in this build (the 1st post it linked in the sticky, too).

The correction is in hireling gear. Now he can be much more useful with this gear (only for ladder players; non ladder players should consider the old gear):

"Insight" eth Cryptic axe
"Fortitude" eth Archon plate
Eth Andariel's visage [Ral]

With this gear (that is a lot cheaper than the previously-suggested gear) the merc will be absolutely pwning all; he will have a very good damage to deal with magic immunes, a marvellous defense, maxed resists (80 lightning), a decent life leech... but the best feature of this merc is a thing in the "insight" runeword:

Level 12-17 Meditation Aura When Equipped (varies)

This means that you will no more have mana problems with your necro, and you will rarely use mana potions, till your merc is alive.

I think this correction on the build is very important, and I'm asking in this post if some moderator (Ogre, Coolmission) can edit my first post in this thread to add this new solution for the hireling of this awesome necro build.

It's a good build. I have one question:

What is your bone spear damage?

dude its more like this:

Low Budget
Weapon: Etheral Cryptic Axe Obedience

Armor: ShaftStop

Helm: Vampire Gaze

High Budget
Weapon: EBOTD War Pike or EBOTD Cryptic Axe

Armor: Fortitude (doesnt have to be etheral, its just if you want merc-only gear)

Helm: I'd go w/ the Vamp Gaze listed above, or a 3sock diadem w/ 3 40/15ias jewels in them
