I have a high lvl hammerdin with basically complete end-gear. (I've substituted some skillers for gheeds / mfsc's). You know the story... he owns the whole pvm game and he's my primary mf'er. He's hardly ever in any danger of dying (I play hc), but he suffers from one obvious flaw - iron maiden. Iron maiden can be found in the Chaos Sanctuary and in the Worldstone Chamber, 2 places I frequently visit. Iron maiden drops my holy freeze insight merc in 1 hit. That puts a huge damper on my mana regen. I'm still safe, I can still turn on my own decent med or redemption... but it's just not the same. It slows down the whole process, plus I'm sick of having to tp out and waste 50k gold resurrecting him. (I know, I'm a lazy whiner... but I like to keep the runs goin' fast!).
So... here's my brilliant idea. Hammerdins usually wear mara's, +3 pcom ammy, or rare ammy. I have mara's on. However, I no longer need the res, cuz some of my mfsc's also have res on them, and I'm maxed like that. The +skills aren't needed cuz he'll still own without them. Therefore, I'm considering using MetalGrid ammy on him! It still gives the res if I ever need it again, an extra chunk of def can't hurt, but most importantly - Iron Golem!
I'll make him out of crappy insight polearms that I can easily replace. He'll be a more constant source of mana regen cuz he's too weak to kill himself to iron maiden he'll stay close to me in my field of hammers as I tele so he'll never be in too much danger. Plus it gives me more options with my merc. Such as might merc with doom... hf merc with obedience... etc.
I understand that if you can't tele, then he'll suck too much and die often. Anyone ever try this for a hammerdin?
