I would maybe find another video card. Instead of the Asus 9600XT(Does it come with HL2 voucher?) I would get a cheaper one if it doesn't come with the voucher, since they usually arn't any different then cheaper cards. Since you already spending 165$ for the video card and your getting this for christmas I would definitely go for a 9800 PRO(256bit) ,and it wouldn't hurt to look into a socket 939 cpu at the end of the year since they should be getting much cheaper ,and are supposibly are going to become amds mainstream cpu.

Edit: And last I check you can get better 9600XTS for cheaper with better ram. I've heard the powercolors come with faster ram and theres some versions that are a little bit more in cost but come with really high clocks and the overdrive feature like on 9800XT's.

Edit#2: I would also think of using your current case+PS and your current HD and drives to save cash so you can add more power to your rig.

Edit#3: Why are you getting EEC ram? Are you planing to make this computer into a server?

I like that case more, and 70$ isn't that big of a deal, my current hd is to small, and I am using my current drives, I might get a new dvd one though because mine is being a little on the gay side atm.

And the ps in the case is a 350w I have no idea how much I need, the one I am getting is 520

No?

That paticular card requires reigisterd ram no unbufferd cold.

165+70= 9800 Pro or maybe better by the end of the year.( Arn't they selling a "cripled 6800 for 299? )

256 bit > 128bit 8piplines>4pipelines, come on it would give your rig much more life.

Look at the link i posted. Thats the main site for the Asus A7N8x-E Deluxe. Supports up to 3GB of non-ECC DDR sdram.

I don't know what your friend is on but nVidia didn't design a chipset just so it can use only crappy expensive memory that only gives benefits to workstation and servers. The only nForce chipset i know that uses buffered is the nForce3 socket 940 for Opteron/Athlon 64 FX cpus.

Even if buffered did work, your going to have a hard time playing games (by the looks of it, it looks like you're turning it into a gaming rig).
