My latest map plan would be to use an immense full size map, to make a game that reuses areas constantly. The game wouldn't be your average rpg, you do a quest and win or lose, go on to the next quest etc.. In this if you didn't complete a quest that would be fine, you could go do soemthing else, do the quest again, or just not do it.
As you travelled trhough the 4 lands many things would happen, for example, if say, an evil sorceror attacked a small town with his army of zombies and undead, you would have a choice, let him destory the town while you join him to take over the world, or destroy him and help the town. This way the map would be interactive with the player, letting them choose their fate.
The 4 areas:
1. The first area (un-named) would be mostly mountains, tunnels, caves and that sort of things, this area would be home to the strongest kind of people, dwarves.
2. The second area of the map would be more foresty, surrounded by rivers, it would be the home of the elves.
3. The third, and maybe combined with the fourth area, would be mostly large plains, small forests dotting the landscape, and castles/towns every so often, this part would be the most interactive with the player, as making decisions in this area would determine your fate.
The 4 areas would be seperated by rivers, mountains, and open forests, when you travel between the areas, the game would pause for a moment while it set everything up. Also, there would be animals, and enemies would become stronger throughout the game as you progressed, if you were a level 10 warlock, your enemies might become lvl 2 zombies, which would be stronger.
Im not sure if im going to take on making this map, but since my computers both have a tendency to crash tehse days, i wanted to make sure i didn't lose this idea. Any tips?
