Mutually exclusive skills

What the title says. Can I make such skills and how could it be done?

Example: You have a Mage hero and you can choose whether to master necromancy, fire magic or summoning, etc. Or you have 2 ultimates and you can learn just one of them.

You could run spellbook ability with like necromancy and fire spells inside the "book". Then as the hero levels up, you can put extra points into that "book" and use more spells :).

I already used this method but this isn't exactly what I had in mind... This way you still can learn the other skill if you want, and I want it to be impossible. Like in Heroes III, where there are more than 30 skills but the hero only has 8 slots.

Set up a trigger at the beginning of the map that gives the hero all the possible spells he could learn, then if he learns one use a trigger to remove it's opposite.

Yeah that works, or use my spellbook idea and cut off some spellbooks that you don't need.

That brings me to another question... I read somewhere that a hero can only have 5 skills. Does that mean 5 learned skills or 5 skills to learn?

I believe that a hero can have 6 skills (there are 6 boxes), but the sixth, if not a hero spell, must be triggered.

But it's 5 learnt spells; see DotA.*

Yeah, the sixth skill must be either default (non-learnable) or external (item or trigger). The editor doesn't allow you to add more than 5 skills. Which means I'm stuck to not have Attribute Bonus. :( Anyway, 30 levels of other skills should be enought. Though I can make the Attribute Bonus being automatically added when the hero levels beyond 30.

Not really, you can have up to 7. But the 7th must be learned last so when the Hero ability icon disappears. The spell will now go there.

However, 5 can be used that are hero. The other 1-2 have to be regular abilities that use 1 level.
