Microsoft was also hurt by the recall and repairs of their faulty merchandise... very faulty merchandise.

Microsoft is unlikely to be able to afford Google. If Yahoo! is valued at US$45 billion (and that is very generous - Facebook itself is valued at US$15 billion), then by market share, Google is worth over US$100 billion. I happen to think Google is easily worth 5 or ten times that amount.

I'm not really looking forward to this merger if it happens. Microsoft makes buggy software and Yahoo! is constantly lost. I'm not looking forward to "Microsoft Hoo!" or anything. Live Spaces failed and so did Yahoo! 360°. Live Mail is sinking but Yahoo! Mail sank years ago. Yahoo! continued its stupid long lonely path to a content portal not realising AOL failed that twice while Microsoft tried to do the same with MSN, but then changed its mind, leaving it with two useless systems.

If anything can get more scatterbrained than this, then I'd be worried.

Take a look at this: Everything Yahoo! - this shows how ridiculously Yahoo!'s workload is spread out. Microsoft isn't buying them for their technology, they just want their market share.

But I personally doubt this will go through. Yahoo! is probably going to be far too full of itself to accept the offer. It's not like Yahoo! isn't making money. Unfortunately, it's got to the point where Yahoo! and Baidu have around the same market share. Yahoo! is a pale shadow of what could have been and the worst part is they aren't closing down services, they're adding more.*

I have heard this as well. It seems that Bill Gates is really up for something . I mean it seems that if his going to buy off yahoo then he would be monopolizing the search engine already. He can make more money if his going to buy yahoo since there would be no more competitor except for himself alone.
Ever heard of Google?

that could be true, but if you knew your ****, you might realize
Yahoo is the #1 site most visited on the entire internet by a wide margin.

does yahoo still have its human edited search directory up? you know, like google used dmoz.org, yahoo had its own version?

i know it took a beating ever since they bought their crawler technology from Inktomi, but it was much easier to find what youre looking for last time i went on there. like x42 says though, the staff is spread so thinly over such a big workload, they probably got rid of it by now..
