What are those "things" that you need to do in excels? If its for a course, they usualy give classes for those few lucky souls not yet acquainted with the cyber abomination that is Excel. You could probably learn everything you need to know in a 2 hours class on the subject. You should check that up.

i make large mailing lists for a company, and i do it in excel...i've learned to do it pretty quickly with the knowledge i possess, but i know there are much quicker ways of doing things, with formulas and that good stuff....just wanted to know if anyone here knew much about it

well i get big list of addresses....say

Current Resident <first column
3047 Rodney ave Apt. 1 <second column
Ft. Riley, KS 66442 <third column

now for that building alone ill have 6 apartments so everything the same except the apartment # ....for example

Current Resident
3047 Rodney ave Apt. 2
Ft. Riley, KS 66442

Current Resident
3047 Rodney ave Apt. 3
Ft. Riley, KS 66442

Current Resident
3047 Rodney ave Apt. 4
Ft. Riley, KS 66442

Current Resident
3047 Rodney ave Apt. 5
Ft. Riley, KS 66442

Current Resident
3047 Rodney ave Apt. 6
Ft. Riley, KS 66442

then ill have the next building so

Current Resident
3048 Rodney ave Apt. 1
Ft. Riley, KS 66442

so on and so forth....now i know that excel has that nifty little thing were it recognizes #'s and adds one when you pull down....but it adds one to the bldg. # not the apt #...is there i way i can get it to recognize the apt #??

also.....this is really basic, but when im typing and i want to go down a cell, whats the keyboard shortcut...i dont like having to double click to be able to type in that cell!

it would be really awesome if i could figure out how to just enter the first and last in the building # range, and the # of apts then let it fill it all in for me....is that possible?

ok easy
input this in their respective rows

3047 Rodney ave Apt. 1
3047 Rodney ave Apt. 2
3047 Rodney ave Apt. 3
3047 Rodney ave Apt. 4
3047 Rodney ave Apt. 5
3047 Rodney ave Apt. 6

highlight them and drag that autofill thing. it worked for me

that seemed to work pretty swell....do you know the keyboard command(s) to be able to select the cell below and type in it....(without having to double click on it)?

Try this since I am not on my @ home computah!
put the first number in the first box...Then in box below it type =A1 +1
Then drag down the fill handle.
So it should go
1st box = 1
2nd box =A1 +1
I think that's how you do it off the top of my head.

there is a way that I will tell u when I get back to my apt and read the book that you can keep everything exclusive from the calculation occuring.
