Mercs... Use or not to use?

Some people swear by mercs, some people dont bother with them, while others say it depends on character class and type.

My question to all is, do you choose to you your merc? If so what kind work with what class of character? Personally I think it depends on class and type. Lastly what do you find is the best merc gear to compliment your character?

Likewise. They allways end up dieing on me unless I can supply them with decent gear. And by decent, I mean reasonably good gear. They are however helpful for people who can afford them and keeping them alive, as well as outfitting them.

I like my merc. He has a Fortitude, EtH BoTD Warpike, and dream. He pwns people and also helps me kill things when i bot. So yea, i think their worthwhile. I like Act 2 Hell because mercs need defense to live and with defiance they get aLoT more def.

the stuff isn't that great, but he seems to do very well in hell. i usually let him kill the bosses (except baal) when i'm bored.

Hell ****ing yes. Mine uses eth upp'ed P shaft, reapers toll and eth rockstoppers.

I wish I could have kept a good mercenary. But mostly, they end up dieing due to a lag kill on my part, as well as decent gear instead of ''good'' gear, if you know what I mean.

u should always get a merc but make sure u have a hi enouhg lvl char. and merc so u dont die and make sure ur merc has some good gear on cause me and my friends buts have been saved by our mercs. but the best mercs r the merc in act 2

i think using a merc is pointless, unless you have a crap load of money and extremly annoyed about the immunes, thats why characters have more than one type of element! Imagine That!

My sorceress's merc is really essential. He has an insight so I never run out of mana.

i use a2 holy freeze merc.

but only when im doing countess/pindle

meph tends to gg my merc, and pvp is pointless lol

i use shako/shaft/cheap 3 socketed polearm (forget wut kind) w/ a few random runes in it (yeah i know, i gotta get a bette ritem) i useually use a dual amn'd ...**** wuts it called...taht unique polarm thats always got 2 sockets... *shrugs*

i know, i need better gear =/

If you are rich in gold. I had one once and I sold a Mal rune just for over a million gold.

along time ago when the new runewords came out i had the convection pike and coh and andy visage he help me pwn alot I would use sanctuary and convetoin at same time...

You can do some nasty things with those mercenaries. When you teleport, so do they. You could literally flank a melee character from afar with a Rogue who has nice gear and doesn't die in one hit. ^^

I hate people who do that. Mainly because all the pvp melee'ers I've made have sucked.

for me, merc is a necessity....and anybody who's had a bot for more than a week should be able to afford decent gear for a merc. i mean, fort is pretty damn cheap to make yourself, and you can get eth vamp for like a lem rune or less probly...

on my lite sorc's merc i have:

eth fort
eth infinity
and eth vamp

this merc dies less than i do lol and he was not that hard to put together. if you ask me, i'd say you have to be an idiot(or at least very lazy) to not use a merc.

true, most people use emrcs as support, btu leveling them can get awfully annyoing...especially when they dont have good gear.
