Can you imagine what the Protoss must have been like in their medieval times? Bladed weapons, armor, weak psi abilities, and wars? That would be so cool! I can just picture the old-school Zealots with twin swords. How much would that poon?

they didn't even have psionic abilities, they lost that power after the Aeon of Strife started, and up until Khas unearthed the Khaydarin Crystals and reimbued his race with the ability to use their powers, following the doctrine of Khala

they developed their psionic abilities while they evolved as a communal link, although it was very basic, there was no period in their history which resembled the medieval era besides the aeon of strife, which didn't take many generations before all protoss had lost their psionic links.. it was very cut-throat, and, well.. was probably really cool :D

Didn't it say something about someone getting pissed off and creating a Psionic storm that nuked some of the land and killed thousands of Protoss? If not it should have.

During the *'Aeon of Strife', I'm sure their techs advanced quite a bit.
Like any war, advances in techs are quite popular. One tech leads to another tech.

They didn't have a middle age. The Xel'Naga arrived when they already had boats and a tribal, nomadic society. They were primitive, then. And the Xel'Naga jumped them to the golden age.

that's what i was trying to say.. if there was anything that even slightly resembled a medieval era, it'd have to have been the aeon of strife, due to the general cutthroat environment and constant wars.. but yea, as far as an actual middle age, there wasn't one

Thus we learn that to be a successful race in the universe, you MUST go through a period of time where nothing is learned besides the art of dissecting your own race in a deep dark dungeon and findy the many uses for their internal organs.

lol that's a good question.. there was never anything that said how they communicated before psionic links.. but there were two periods they lacked any kind of psionic links, powers, or energy.. before they originally developed it (you know, all primitive and stuff), then they evolved it to help communal organization.. made them efficient and all that jazz.. then later they lost it again, during the aeon of strife, when they cut their connections off between eachother, and then after generations of mindless slaughter, they had completely lost and forgotten about all aspects of their previous shnizzits.. maybe they didn't need to talk.. they just kinda...... yea i guess clicks and grunts is a good guess, lol.. or like the special protoss language.. maybe they can do more than just think it :p

I think they could only communicate with other member of their tribes because the tribes isolated themselves from each other.

I suppose they could talk by gestures and empathy, if they were earthlings. But they aren't ;)

i'll try to find a snippet of protoss history that describes what i'm talking about

"The raging battles waged during the Aeon of Strife were fought by countless generations of Protoss, all bent on perpetuating the guilt and blame for their abandonment. Although few actual records remain from this "lost period" of Protoss history, it is clear that the First Born devolved into frantic legions of merciless killers. Driven by centuries of unthinking hatred towards their brethren, entire generations of Protoss lived and died without ever knowing the legacies of their past or of their primal psychic bond that their forefathers had once shared."

"Khas was able to channel the primal energies of the Crystals through himself, allowing him to access the primordial, psychic bond of his race. For the first time in thousands of years, the primal chord of the Protoss was tapped. Flooded by emotions emanating from every member of his race, Khas became aware that the Protoss had not lost their primal link, but had simply forgotten how to attune themselves to it. Khas, gathering many young Protoss together, was able to teach the new generation of warriors how to access their latent psychic bond."

i guess you can take that how you will, lol
