Warcraft III Ladder System Update
Thanks for everyone’s patience and understanding with the ladder system that we introduced last month. Through the feedback and dedication of our fan community, we’ve identified several issues with the new XP system. We have addressed these issues and are currently in the process of testing the changes internally. Here is a short list of some of the changes in the works:

Improvements in Battle.net's ability to determine a player's true skill rating and ELL (expected ladder level).

Separate player skill ratings for Solo, Team, and FFA play. A great solo player is not necessarily the best team player.

The number of games required for a player to reach the ladder level that corresponds to their ELL (expected ladder level) will differ based upon (1) game type, and (2) the associated difficulty of finding games of that type on Battle.net. For instance, a random team player will have to play approximately 300 games, whereas a solo player will have to play approximately 200 games. An arranged 4v4 team player, on the other hand, will only have to play around 40. After playing a sufficient number of games, the player of average skill should be level 25 in that game type's corresponding ladder.

The player skill requirement for reaching the very highest ladder levels will be increased. Fewer people will be able to reach level 50, but obtaining that level will also be more prestigious.

The experience gained or lost by a player when a game finishes will be more directly influenced by the player's skill. Highly skilled players will now be able to reach higher ladder levels more quickly. Players who intentionally lose games in an effort to lower their ELL and find easier opponents will also find it much more difficult to climb the ladder.

The experience gained or lost from one game will also be limited by new minimum and maximum experience values. These values differ based on the game type played.
We will be making this new version of the ladder available on Westfall (our Beta Patch Server) in approximately the middle of next week. Look for more information early next week regarding this opportunity to scrutinize the changes and provide additional feedback prior to the public release of the updated XP system. As always, we thank everyone for their feedback and support in improving and maintaining the quality of Warcraft III.

K, what I have to say about this..:

They are making a beta server to test a new version of the AMM, but I am not going to play on the beta because I hate the AMM, and I don't want to help at all.

well there was little progression in the old ladder system, yes u were usually paired with equally skilled oppenents, but you were not well rewarded for your victories, this was just a failed attempt at changing that.

This next attempt sounds like its a little closer to what everyones looking for, unfortunatly i will not my time testing it. Rather I will listen to those that are feedback, and prepare myself for whats to come.

This is from bwittle over at battle.net a short while ago about are current amm situation. for those who are still confused.

_____________________________________________

It's impossible for unskilled players to reach any of the top levels (40 to 50) no matter how many games they play.

We all need to make an adjustment (myself included) in how we compare levels. Any player under 25 should be ignored.

The players who make it to 40 to 50 are those who are
1) Highly skilled
2) Have consistently played at a high level of skill (read, lots of games)

The largest changes with 1.15 are
1) Smurfs can no longer reach the top. You need to continue to play an account if you wish earn a respectable level.
2) Ladders scale players / teams using all 50 levels.

A record of 21-0 is a smurf account. That isn't a bad thing, but if you want to reach the top levels, you need to play hundreds of games. Not 21 games.

You will find players who have played "a lot" more games than you will generally have a higher level. This is by design. Assuming you are one of the top players, if you continue to play your account, you will reach level 50, while other players stop increasing their level around 28 (depends on their skill).

This doesn't mean that the new AMM is perfect; it has some issues that we are looking into." - BWhittle

"Win % is a horrible way to judge skill.
AMM does not care about win %.
Generaly all players will approach 50% over a period of a few hundred games."

Q: do you even know that players loose on purpose to gain lvls easyer?
A: It's one of several potential issues we are looking into.

"Most of the 1 xp, 0 xp games should no longer occur. A change was made to limit the type of matches that occur. The down side to this change is longer wait times =( "

I liked the fact that I would be with level 4's against level 30+'s and win. The irony was great.
