And about the state they are in, I've heard about some people looking for clues in all the episodes to find out which state Springfield is in. Obsessively so, like when Bart and Milhouse are singing that "Springfield Springfield" song, the guy comes up and goes, "New York New Yorrrrk!" and Bart points and says, "New York is thataway, man!"

Now figure out, based on the shadows cast by the sun, which way he was pointing. Welcome to a new way of life.

if u watch certain episodes (like when homer is teaching apu to be american) u get very close estimates of what state they are in...then you google springfield to see how many cities are named springfield...2 from what i know (i actually checked once) there are 2 main ones, i forget wut states...i think iowa and something...so i can narrow it down to 2 stats heh

This state is still dominated by Puritanist beliefs though, which really pisses me off. At least we're making forward progress, we just recently repealed the Blue law banning alcohol from being sold on Sundays... :-/

I'm willing to bet that judging from the level of stupidity of the people in Springfield (yes I know The Simpsons regularly puns upon the actual level of stupidity of Americans), that it would have to be in Massachusetts. My mom was raised there.
