CTV.ca said:
A young man travelling on a Greyhound bus bound for Winnipeg late Wednesday was stabbed to death and then decapitated in what appears to be a random act of violence, witnesses said.

According to passengers on the bus, the victim, between the ages of 18 to 20, was sleeping with his head against the window when the attack occurred.

"He was listening to music when suddenly the person next to him began to stab him in the neck with... a large butcher knife," CTV's Murray Oliver reported Thursday from Winnipeg, Man.

Garnet Caton, who was sitting in front of the victim, heard the commotion and turned around thinking he was going to witness a fight.

Caton told CTV News that once he realized what was going on he screamed: "Stop the bus, somebody's getting stabbed, everyone get the hell off."

The bus driver pulled over on a section of the east-bound Trans-Canada Highway -- about 15 kilometres west of Portage la Prairie, Man -- and many of the 37 passengers began to flee the bus.

Canton gathered a small group of people to go back and help the victim, said Oliver.

"They returned to the back of the bus to find that the person who was stabbing the person in the neck had now sawed off the head of (the victim)."

The man, with the head in one hand and the butcher knife in the other, then tried to attack the other passengers, said Oliver.

The group was able to exit the bus and slammed the door behind them.

The man then stabbed the door with his knife but was unable to break through and get off the bus. Eventually, he attempted to start up the bus to drive away but the operator had hit a switch, disabling the vehicle.

Oliver said a truck driver then arrived at the scene and handed out wrenches and crowbars to several men. The small group gathered around the door to the bus and prevented the man from exiting until police arrived.

RCMP eventually arrested the man after a standoff lasting several hours, said Oliver.

Witnesses said the suspect was tall, large and wearing sunglasses, even though it was dark.

The bus was travelling from Edmonton to Winnipeg.

The RCMP and Greyhound officials have confirmed that a "major incident" took place on the bus but few details have officially been released.
Well, this has furthered my resolve to never go to Winnipeg, ride a Greyhound Bus, or go to Winnipeg IN a Greyhound Bus.

This not only is a sad and gross tale telling how crazy this kid actually was, but it also shows how cowardly the general populace is. I wouldn't want to get cut either, but I don't think I could stand by and watch someone get attacked in the middle of a bus. Not to mention I'm thinking all the people on the bus could probably over power the guy.

Wasn't like that this is a big thing the city this happened in I use to live in and it happened only a few hours away from where I live now. It was ****ing crazy he walked around with the head eating the flesh and stuff huge thing on face book. he Might get off with a pschratic problem. And alot of people think canada's going to fail at this again.. WE OFFER PAROLL AFTER 25 years no matter what on first degree murder. He is being charged with 2nd degree which means he gets offered it for sure after 15 years.

What? The head got its own facebook account..?

Seriously. 15 years and parole? Vicious murders like this deserve the death sentence or a very heavy jail sentence. Parole shouldn't even be in the mind of the killer, because it's not going to happen until they're too old and feeble and incapable of killing - hopefully.

From everything I could read, the case should have been for manslaughter. 2nd murder would be the most extreme case for him, where 1st murder is defiantly not possible. I am not trying to defend his doings as he should be punished, but the laws were written for a reason.

Most cases of murders that go to trial it sounds like the laws were written in defense of the murderer and not to serve punishment in respect of the victim.

Yeah.. and most of the time, the murderer's lawyers are much better (most likely for PR stunt). That's not a fact but it's the way I see it.

The knife has other uses, and there is no way any lawyer can prove that the particular knife was designed to kill. Given the evidence via our media, it would be impossible for him to get 1st degree.

I don't know how Canadia's prisons are but hopefully he'll get raped and killed in jail. No murder that wasn't on accident deserves to be treated in the same way they did to the person they killed. Eye for an eye.

If that knife was found on that passenger it would have been removed and he would be charged do you bring bowing knifes onto buses..? Over 6" blades are illegal to conceal. An EYE FOR AN EYE MAKES THE WHOLE WORLD BLIND.
