Making my own server?

Ok well I want to make my own server but my firewall wont let people join my game. I know there is a way I can disable this without taking off the firewall. If anyone can tell me a simple way it would help me out alot.

There are certain ports than need to be opened for you to be able to run your server behind a firewall. See this thread at the official Steam forums to find out which ports need to be opened.
