Looking for a cheap substitute to photoshop

i am looking for something cheap, i.e. under $100 USD, to work with for drawing, something that i can use a graphics tablet and pen with.

anyone know if Corel Corporation CorelDraw Essentials ( v. 2.0 ) is anygood at all?

What makes the difference is what you're doing with it...

Though if you're thinking PSP type program, PS Elements would likely be a better option.

But PS and CorelDraw are overall different environments...


I recommend looking at programs in your price range, then using free trials or see if you can find someone with a copy you can test of programs that don't. -decide from there.

And if it applies, make sure to look into/GET student discounts.

just so happens i am a student,

does paint shop pro handle layers?

i hate working without layers, so any good suggestions for programs that have layers is appreciated too

i am avoiding trials because of 56k, yeah i know it sucks, but it is all i can get right now

PSP handles layers last I checked...but, meh.


Acedemic Superstore is probably the most commonly recommended places - you might notice that the prices are quite lower.


Ask people you know that might have copies you could try, or your school - most schools have at least some editing software.

GIMP is a good alternative. It's free, too.
