For my speech class i am doing a persuasive speech on games. Seeing as there are many ways to go (ie violence = killers etc...) I want to know what is the best topic to tackle on. Originally i want to do it on how media criticizes games with out objective analysis but i fear that it wont be long enough and the research(OLOLOL) i have done doesn't really sound all that great

do it on why video games are a form of art and a record of our society.

did you know the library of congress archives video games in their stacks? it's a valid argument

do it on games that teach you something (not how to kill aliens or zombies)

games like...
assassins creed(knights templar, mayan calander, nazca lines)
god of war(greek mythology)
grand turismo(...cars)

its a stretch, but at least you'll get to play some cool games for *research*

IN the speech ask the question if anybody has felt the need to kill anybody after playing a video game. If they say yes then ask if they have been to a psychiatrist.

Define the parameters of the speech. I've had speeches that have to be 5 minutes long, have to have 5 quotes with sources in them, had to be completely "off the top of the head", had to have all kinds of visuals aids, so on and so forth.

What kind of speech are we looking at, so we can better figure out how to help

Does it have to be just one topic?
kind of. just need one central idea then i can branch off that if it is possible.

basically a persuasive speech based on Fact, Value, and/or Policy. i have done the research already on various area's from "effects" of violent games and stuff like sales figures and players demographic stuff. I just need a more clear idea on what i can talk about for a good 8-9 minutes.

i should also be able to refute arguments made against the topic* Which controversial topics usually have but doesn't have to be one as long there is a persuasive element to it

Well the only thing that really needs persuasion when it comes to video games is the violence thing, and people spending too much time on it (WoW, Second Life, etc) and it resulting in broken marriages, families, etc. There's a ton of articles out there about marriages failing over computer-usage, i read one today where the husband was caught having sex on Second Life with someone other than his wife's character. She filed for divorce, lol.

I don't know about you, but all I ever did in any speech class was make a small index card of bullet ideas and just talked on those for a bit each.

Makes it a lot easier than if you actually work on a speech and try and memorize it. I would see about 5/6th of the class just stand up there like idiots because they'd try and memorize and recite a 5 minute long speech, as opposed to just naturally talking about the subject.
