Things to watch out for in Greece (not only in Greece specially it's typical for the Balkan peninsula):

- some will think of you as a stupid American
- will steal your car if you just don't lock it
- will rob you at first notice
- never say your credit card number, ppl in the USA may not use that but people here would go on a shopping spree online
- better yet, don't go anywhere without gally, she should be your mom
- don't expect people who you don't know to say 'Hi' in the streets
- don't expect people to be honest, they will lie to you as much as they can,

If that's in reference to Dubai, then you clearly haven't been here. You can read up about it as much as you like on Wikipedia, or hearing it from other people that might've been here and hated it, but until you come here firsthand, you won't see just how insignificant shit that goes on exclusively in the U.S. is compared to how fast modern technology has turned this city from another sand dune to a modern wonder.

This is my second stay in Dubai, last time I was here for over a week and did tons of touristy stuff, including getting shithoused at a hotel and trying to renounce my U.S. citizenship to a Pakistani (because I was shithoused), and tried to get him to make me an honorary Pakistani.

Fortunately he was a coworker I met up with here in Dubai before we all went back to Kabul, and not just some random guy I insulted while shitfaced.

New York City definitely has character, but Dubai has some pretty amazing architecture. I could definitely live here if I wouldn't be a second class citizen.

I just think the city is fucked up.
Those golf courses, for example. Those workers live in concrete houses outside the city. At least, that is what I headd. Poor people everywhere in surrounding countries. And what do those people do? They make fresh water from the sea. Do they give any to people in need? No. They all spray it on their golfcourses that nobody even visits, because you would simply faint from the heat. Billions of litres, and that water costs more then gasoline! I could give more examples, but I think this will do.

By the way, Dubai is in serious debt with the surrounding oil states. They would have been broke right away if those rich countries would not have intervened.

I understand your concern for the poor, and sympathize with them as well, however consider the alternatives in this entire region of the world. Your alternatives for government is either an authoritarian government such as Dubai or Iran where order is kept, at the cost of rights. Versus a complete chaosocracy where the government is hardly able to keep the peace, and unable to keep much of it's country under control (Pakistan, Afghanistan).

Yes, there is a great amount of room for change here, however until another Arab state can do so, Dubai remains almost the pinnacle of modern achievements in the Middle East. Credit is due where they've made achievements, however I am of course all for workers' rights and equal rights.

Partying with me: Alcohol consumption might be too much for young Americans arriving from muslim countries
