Ladder

What's a ladder season? When I played back then I dont think there were ladder seasons so I would like some info on them.

basically, when ladder ends your ladder character becomes a non-ladder character and all of the ladder-only items (and your other items of course) you've gotten are now on non-ladder, making them worth quite a lot.

there are certain items and runewords that can only be found/made by a ladder character (in a ladder season).
and there wont be any duped items (theoretically)

We are currently during the third ladder season after patch 1.10 was released. First season lasted 7 months. The second one lasted 13 months. The third one started early last August.

i guess you can consider ladder harder than non-ladder but as for "better items", i'd have to say non-ladder has better items
this is because non-ladder has the duped items such as armeagadon fletch or spurs
it's more like ladder is harder but with the ability to make better items.
