It is possible to run Diablo II higher, but it would require alot of editing of files, and really not worth it. The reason why Diablo II only supports these 2 display settings and nothing higher is cause when the games were created these were the only 2 display settings that were designed for the most accurate and 3D like game environment. Noone seems to realize that most games that are as old or less than Diablo II run in this environment. The average monitor size from those times, and still today are 15" - 17" and yes although they support higher display apatures doesn't mean everything else should run them. The bigger the picture the more data that has to be processed, and could make the game play more choppy than it should be. Also I would like to point out the direct X version that comes with the game, if you read the support and help files that come with it, you would realize that those 2 screen sizes are that versions best 3D rates, and since it was designed for best performance under that version, than you would definately see why those are the only 2 screen size adjustments.
