I would like to pose the question, that if death is the end of existence, is it bad for the one who is dead.

I’ll start with the thought [of some Greek person] that if it is the end of existence then one cannot experience anything. There fore death cannot be bad for the one who is dead.

What are your thoughts?

I don’t have time to type anymore, I have class in five but I will say this.

This topic is on the assumption that there is no life after death. That death is the end of all existence for the one who dies. If you cannot argue within these limitations please do not enter into this topic, for it makes the question posed ultimately pointless...

well... if there is oxygen in the brain, the person who is dad can still hear, see, and feel. so even if they are dead, they can still experience everything

I think that if there is no life after death, then no, death is not bad the person who has died. The person can experience no more and has no more cares since nothing remains of their consciousness. As I said, the person who is dead does not care about anything, in fact, care is a word associated with feelings and the word and the association and the feelings are all human things that are for the living.

The memory of the person who died can be tarnished and the ones left behind to remember the person can do what they want with their memories of the person, but the person will not be able to do anything about it. You could kill the person and then take his wife/husband for your own or could have been cheating with the person's wife/husband and the person can do nothing about it once they are dead. Even though you personally will have a different opinion maybe of what the person should or shouldn't have done, nothing will have changed for that person. Many of these things go for even if life exists after death of course.

Along with the aspect of having no care, is the fact that if there is no life after death, people should morn the loss of the person's existence and then move on in order to make their own impact on the world and make themselves remembered. In the end, it is a good thing I guess if it is known before death that nothing else will be after it and if a person strives to make a difference in the world.

Death comes to us all. I am not a religious man, and my views on "afterlife" are skeptical. I see it as a long break. Don't think of it bad, otherwise life can be very short and painful.

Death is bad if you have a reason to live. simple as that. Hanging on to loved ones and life is a journy most don't want to give up willingly, so it is bad, untill the point in which one can no longer feel or know anything, because of the simple fact that they do not exist.

Perhaps you should rethink your personal definition of the word "Dead"...

Death is simple, life is complex. The only way you can fear death is if you're still alive because you don't want to lose your material possessions. Once you're dead, if there is no afterlife, you stop functioning and eventually your body decays and that's it. The only way for it to be any other way would be if there was some part of us that wasn't bound by our material bodies. But assuming there's not, well, you would just cease to exist because when your heart stops beating and your brain stops working there's no way you would still be capable of thinking or feeling. That's my take on it :)

Obviously, if when you die you simply wink out from existance, it wouldnt be "bad". How could it? You wouldnt know it was happening because you are already gone. Similar to falling asleep, it would just happen. gg

Well, death can't be bad if you can't experience anything, nor can it be good, since you'd feel absolutely nothing. It'd be a strange shade of grey.

Once a person dies, there is no person. It can't be good or bad, because noone is there to experience it. They cease to exist.

I don't believe in life after death so the only bad thing for the one who dies is the suffering... if you die suddently as in an accident or a shot in the head then you had a nice death :)

Well, it could be considered bad to know you have not done everything you wanted, because that always happen. But then again, you won't remember that once you are dead, nor will it matter.

Anyone that has come back from death (basically they are pronounced dead for a few minutes) will tell you they saw a bright white light get bigger and bigger. Don't listen to them, it's just your eyes adjusting to never being opened again and never seeing anything anymore. Death wouldn't be bad for the person that died, because they wouldn't be able to feel anything anymore...
