Installing diablo 2 help plz

Ok i went to install it and it said this...

Setup cannot read a required data file, your diablo II disc may not be in the CDrom, please ensure that it is

under that it said

D2char.mpq
Error 0x000000001:Incorrect Function
(SafesF.cpp:67

so i checked it, disc was in...then it said it again after i hit retry. so i clicked cancle to reboot and this came up...

Setup was unable to copy D2char.mpq
Incorrect Funtrion
Error 0x00000001
(D:\D2\tools\diablo\source\disckundo.cpp.246

any ideas?

go to www.battle.net and look for help in teh d2 lod section and use the error number you got ie use the number 0x000002 or you could try this, i assume no responsibility for what happens next, ive done this to install a game called wc3roc that had a similiar error and all i know is that this method slows down your cd read speed or w/e to a slower but surer read, please ask before if this is safe before you do it, it was direct directions from a wc3roc page where i got them from, anyways do this, right click on your computer. Select properties. Open the device manager. click on IDE ATA/***** controllers, right click primary IDE channel, go properties, click the advance settings tab, click on transfer mode for device 0 and device 1 and select PIO ONLY for both, do the same with the secondary IDE channel and select pio only, restart your computer and try the install again. i hope it helps. gl.

Sounds like your disc is scratched.
