Image Merging with Adobe?

Can someone help me out...how do you merge images with A.P.

Example:

to me it looks like someone put both pictures on two different layers, set the opasity so that you could see thru them both cut some out of both of them in the middle, merg'd the parts that are still there, paste the other parts on a new layer, set the opasity for the middle parts so that you could semi see thru them, then merg'd all those layers to get one layer. Then they did a gradient for the background.

that could just be two layers, one for each pic and then they used a transperant gradient thing to make that disappear, oneo n each pic...let me test something, and Ill get back to you.

Meh...my idea didnt work, I thought that it could but I think what Ebay.God said is waht he did, althoug hwe could be wrong, didnt beer $lut do that?
