I'm back, and starting a map

Well I'm back after almost 8 months of not being here, and I'm looking to get 1 or 2 people to help me with a map I've been working on. It's a pretty straightforward map, (more on the specifics below) but basically you and some friends are at a party and spending the night, when shit goes wrong, just so happens your in this big mansion, and it goes on from there.

I'm looking for people to help with anything at all

So the map now:

EDITED: I've changed some ideas to make it better and more interesting.

Survival Mode: The first thing I'll be working on is the survival mode of the map each floor will be harder than the previous (starting with the basement and moving up the house) and players will get points every 10 seconds depending on which floor they're on (basement gets 1, 4th gets 5). Players can't kill each other and after the basement they probably would have tos tay in groups to survive.

Challenge Mode: Reversal of the survival mode and there are no points involved, basically a 7 step campaign (4th floor down to the basement, then back to the second and to the first to exit) where you must kill bosses, solve traps and not die, you can get key cards that access floors (through the use of the elevator), or you can use the staircases to get around but that gets dangerous after a while. Timing is key as the bosses exit their rooms (the rooms have little things in them that help you kill the bosses) and then the danger level gets much much higher (lots of the traps will involve groups splitting up, and if you're not with the rest of the group your basically dead if you find a boss). It'll be very hard, especially at the end.

Free for All Mode: Players can kill each other and start with one weapon of their choice (from the first tier of weapons, there will be two tiers) and will respawn 15 seconds after death, they will get one point for a kill of a zombie and 25 points for a player.

Welcome back Tassadar. Your map sounds like the DM map I tried to make a while back but couldn't cause the triggers were pissing me off.

YEah, then that way Greg here can learn about mapmaking and actually get something out of it. *Hides from Greg's many trigger questions*.

Great, sounds like a few people are enthusiastic. I've just finished laying out some ideas for the floors. They'll each have ~5-10 rooms and will have different things to do and i'm going to have a small outdoor area too.

The first part that i'll be making is the standard survival mode, if people want to help with ideas now those are welcome. I'm in need of some of the following:

Ideas for abilities (running around with just a character is boring)
Some weapons
Traps - this the big one, every room will have a purpose for existing, and also have some sort of trap too, even in the survival mode they'll be active so you can't just hide in rooms.

Also, if anybody has some very short snippets of haunted house kinds of noises, I need things like:

Old Grandfather Clock Tick
Heartbeat
Footsteps
Screams

Anything like that is great, if you want to record it yourself that's awesome, or if you can find something lying around please post it up for me :D.

Also, if people want to help out with terrain now's the time to say so, since that's going to go first, I've already laid out sizes for floors etc, and i'm working on rooms and doodads for the first floor (I'm guessing all the terrain will be done by two weeks from now, as I have a race next weekend).

Doesn't hurt to try. Dream_walker can't trigger, and even now he is playing around with the triggers and learning.

It's the thought that counts most, I just played over some of the first floor to check out lighting and it's going to look pretty nice if i can keep up doing terrain montoneously for the next two weekends :p.

Glowing torches with really dense fog makes for a great effect.

Also I've decided the camera will be a normal third person camera (slightly lowered), but the camera will be locked on your unit.

NEW:

I've decided I will be releasing a short movie trailer before the actual map, It's just fun to watch and it'll be in the starting scene for the actual game too, I'll be releasing that some point next weekend.

Also, this map will NOT be protected, I wish to give other people the chance to improve on my map if they think they can and make it better or just look at how I did it. If you give me credit, all the better, otherwise it's just your loss in the end.

I thought you would all enjoy seeing some images of what's to come:

those are sweet! are you on the frozen throne? because that meatman looks a lot more realistic. I mean the colors, and the shading. Good Job Man!! :hop

Yeah I'm using FT, that's actually in the editor so it's not even what it will actually look like :p, may include that scene in the starting movie though I'm not sure yet.

The Cast & Crew of the Map:

(Minus the 5 bosses, you don't get to see those until it's released :p)

:D sweet man. Only thing i dont like about making maps for warcraft is, that you dont get as much appreciatance. On ********** with flash, if you make a good one, everyone loves you. On this, people dont pay attention :frustrate

True, but I don't really want to pay to get a flash program when I can make these maps which are fun, sure I a lot of people never really see the work you put in, but it gives me something to do.

Especially right now, my life's sort of hectic so this is a nice break from all that.

Units now spawn at a rate of 1 the first time, up to 5, then they spawn at 5 constantly (from all the spawn points except the one you are on).

Sounds like Outbreak or Re maps. Also if you are able to, be sure to add difficulty levels. Like if you type lvl5, upgrades are set to 5 and you get more experience from monsters.

Good plan for a later addition, it's taking a lot of work to get all five floors working properly (each hallway and room takes about one region, and coordinating spawns is hard, not counting I have a ton of doors in the levels and making sure computer units understand that they can walk through them is a pain)... It's going good though for the time being, I got some music too.

It is, but I am saying it out of suggestion and not forcing you. Its was good in Fortress Outbreak because you can load a character and level him up with more harder monsters.

Right, downside is with these doors it's a pain to get the AI to walk to places, they stop in front of the doors and then just walk back to their starting spot... Have to fix that.

I'm sorry to bump this/ double post but i'd rather that then make a new thread:

Survival Mode is finished and being polished now. I'm looking for people with fresh ideas and/or the ability to trigger decently to help in the making of part 2: the campaign mode... Traps + Triggers galore.
