Not proven to work? I think it helps, that to me is enough. Elite uniques with ilvl 99 are dupes. Go find a legit. They're not as common as you think keeping the 'keep unid' trick with gambling in mind. People can't truly TRUST that the ilvl of the item means it's duped. However, we all can take a pretty good guess using the ilvl of the item to determine it's legit-ness.
Someone was saying that Baal's minions are lvl 99 ... no.
(First number is in Norm, NM, Hell)
Minion of Destruction 55 70
90
Baal 60 70
95
Nihlathak 65 70
95 <--- For him to drop a WF would be slim to none considering no one hits him more than once... IF THAT.
Either way, there isn't a lvl99 monster. Only thing I can see that is wrong with using ilvls is that the cruels that I get off pindle vary. Some are i98 or i99. Maybe it'd determined differently for magic items I don't know.
Point is if someone is under-asking - if that's a phrase - for a perfect or even IMperfect i99 wf than don't bother unless you just want to screw around with a duped LEGIT item...when you can get the 08 a bit cheaper (than even what they may be asking for duped 09) and it's better.
I dunno what possible tests you can do to figure out if it's working or not, but I'd say use some common sense while trading. Ya, I use the ilvl of the item but it's not the only thing I USE. Try using some common sense...
Anyone trading a legit 09 wf has either been WAY TOO LUCKY with pindle or it's a dupe cause I see no reason to trade one. If you're a D2 addict like most people that play that game whether you're gonna use it or not, you keep one and if you actually do have more than one than you trade that other for all the (insert currency here) you want.
Don't trust the trader? Don't trade. I wouldn't trade anything for an i99 elite unique because they're worthless and if my item is gonna be subject to a dupe check or rust storm - well, I'd rather have a godly item on me that I know is hacked/bugged/duped.
