Counter-Strike 1.6 is still the most popular online FPS, and still a sick game. Other than that you could try Warcraft III (RTS), Starcraft (RTS) - Still most popular RTS?, or Diablo II if you haven't played them already.

I also enjoy the Total War series, but that's mostly a single player game.

Definitely don't listen to this guy! CS:S and DoD:S are dying at best, the better and larger games are from the Half-Life ONE engine.
