Orignaly started as a prank on 4chan or sumethingaweful or another equaly insipid board community whereby some "click here for important link" would lead to a duck with rolling legs or something like that earning the title duckrolling. This eventualy morphed into a link to youtube and Rick Astley's song "never gonna give you up", thus "rick rolling".

You find it mostly now anywhere with a link as "new starcraft II interview", "The president has been assassinated", or "Mary-kate and Ashley, Legal and Naked", and are treated to a very bad song by a very bad 80's singer.

Also love how Family Guy Rick Roll'd everyone. So spiteful.

I personally love getting rick rolled. Its a cheerful friend taunting you with dreams of magical videos, and songs of wonder. Curiousity gets the best of you and its like christmas morning opening that bike you always wantted with the horn and Rocket Power trading cards in the spokes.
