If IT was like Starcraft or Warcraft III or a game with a large enough auience, and a large enough chance to make money, then go for it. But seriously, gaming is eventualy going to take off as a more serious "sport" in the future, good to start early.

Guitar hero has a pretty big ****ing auidience if you havent noticed it is the biggest selling game franchise at the moment. but i honestly dont think gaming will become a sport... it will never be big enough.

Audience isn't how many people have the game. It is how many people are willing to watch a tournament. Big Fin' Difference.

No one watches a tournament, no one advertises, no one makes money, there is no sport.

no, a "sport".

Social attitudes mostly stop it. parent's don't want kids practicing in a game like they want them studying in school or in real sports.

Eventually when there is enough money in it, games should be a far more popular area of competition.

Social attitude among other things I think will prevent vidya gaemz becoming a sport. The other thing being that it's changing to quickly. Baskeball will always be Basketball, but professional Counterstrike player will eventually get outplaced by a newer, better shooting game.

Once you can perfect a song on guitar hero, you can't go any further. At least on other games it's different each time (SC/WC/FPS games etc).

thats another thing about Guitar Hero I was going to bring up, top level competitions come down not to who the better player is at any moment, but the first one to make a mistake. You don't beat your opponent, your opponent has to lose themselves.
