Hows the total war series?

i've been itching for a new rts lately and have always been kinda interested in total war but never enough to purchase it. Is the series any good? hows the mechanics?

I've seen it played and tinkered with it a little bit myself. It's kinda like Risk, where you take over territories but you do all the fighting yourself. You capture towns and capitals and they produce things you need for your ever-growing army. I don't particularly like the game, you just start with an army and you try and kill the other army when you attempt to take a territory, or defend one. Pretty straightforward.

If there's a demo, i suggest you download it. If you like that then get the full version.

meh. the only game i could stand that didn't let you control the combat was ogre battle on the snes(i know, not an rts....althought it felt like one).

It is not a real RTs, it is in the "tactical Real Time" game genres.

Total wars are two games in one. Theres is the Turn Based world, where you throw armies around, conquer territories and such, build castles all that.

In the turn based world, when you want to challenge another army or take over someone else's major city, your go into the Tactical strategy mode, where you move around the armies you purchased in the Turn based section. The Tactical map is fun, but most battles are decided before you start.

the hybridization of the game play elements is pretty cool.

i been having fun with turn based strategy games for a whille. if you played any of the civilization games it should be fun. you will like this game if you like to manage stuff and complete goals

i went to the store and bought final fantasy tactics...but anyways...

it seems like its more like lords of the realm than civilization...is this so?

This inspires me to get the game, Diplomacy. I played the tabletop version yesterday, thought it was pretty cool. It's like Risk but not gay and you can't annihilate everyone with only three men because of chance.

As for M2TW, it's hard to say. The learning curve is pretty rough if you haven't played the original, and even the original can be somewhat complicated in the beginning. I have loved these games though, MTW/M2TW/RTW they were all great, and I plan on getting Empire: Total War...

i have medieval total war and viking invasion expansion pack and they seem ok but there to easy to complete
