You need certain programs to OC you computers, and sometimes if you dont know how to do it right your cpu might overheat and what-not

Well, depending on how high you overclock it to, you'll need some sort of cooling system so it doesn't overheat, this can be either adding more fans to your PC, or using a liquid cooling system, much like the one Above_70Percent uses.

Thank you, thank you. Athalons aren't the best to OC either... I'd rather stay with what you have right now until you can get an ATI or something more made for clocking.

Edit= Trying to OC an athlon is like trying to go 100 mph with a volvo.

Dude you don't know what you are talking about. There is no such thing as an Athalon. Its Athlon btw. Athlons are overclocked a lot more than a pentium because usually the multiplier isn't locked compared to an intel who has a locked multiplier. OCing a locked intel would require speeding up the front side bus which also messed with your pci/agp slots. Most athlons do not come with a locked multiplier therefor making it easier to overclock.
It's the brand of mobo that makes it locked, not the processor itself. Intel makes theirs locked. Asus mobos are unlocked.

Btw, you won't get much out of a overclocked Thoroughbreds. Bartons and Athlon 64 can get pretty far, but not as much compared to Intel's Pentium 4 Northwood and Prescott.

Note: Athlon XP 2200+ has a Thoroughbred core. Still overclockable, but not enough to impress you.

God forbid I have the 1 extra letter in there. Everyone else knew what I was talking about and didn't say anything about it.

Cooling is the key, once you get it set up. One of my friends took apart a min-fridge, and welded 3 comp.boxes together, and turned it into a fridge for overclocking. He even had a side-storage to cool drinks ^^

It costed like 1000$ to do, though, and for that he could have had a better processor, and a lot more o_O

search google for overclocking statistics for your athlon 2200+ and follow those instructions. unless you want a hardcore-overclock you can go with the cooler that came with it, spending hundreds of bucks for an immensly nerdish cooling-system is just, well nerdish.
and above70, you have no clue what youre talking about. an ati isnt even a processor, so please refrain from trying to tell him how to overclock.
get a good tutorial on overclocking amd's with your amd-chip [thunderbird i suppose] and follow those guidelines. usually you want to go in 5 mhz steps and increase the core voltage at specific points. dont do this without a professional tutorial. then at some point it will be running unsteadily and youll have to go down until it runs perfect. this is because all cpus/coolers are a bit different in their series. some might be a bitch to overclock, some be a charm.
