Well, first of all, read the help file that comes with starcraft editor. It helps. It helped me, when I made, once, a damn map, with sounds, and stuff. In my language :)

Ah, well, I gave up after that... Too much work.

But read the manual, it'll help you get the basics, and a little beyond.

Well you need to place a Starting point , Minerals , Vespian geysers , and a wall so you are not wide open.

Well when you load up SC, you see the campaign editor. Open that and u get a new window loaded up. That is where all the map making work will be placed. On your left side you have at the top, a Mini map to show you map so far. Along the left side, Your Terrain, players 1-8 (Buildings, Units, Starting Location, and much more), Resources (Minerals, Gas, Other extras), and if you progress to a more advanced Editor, Extras. For yor first map, I suggest just making a melee map. MAke some obstacles (Hills, holes, ect.), then make minerals, and gas for each player u will have. After you finish that, you will making starting location (Which can be found in the left side throughout the 1-8 players.) for each player at their particualr starting spot. Start with tha, and work off it. Check some actual map making sites, and the people at BF's about trigger (used for use map settings maps) !!!! HOPE THIS HELPS!!!

I agree with desroches!
You should start with a melee map first.
Then move on to editing a great fun map!
Then you get to start to make your own map.

Eg.
Coolest $ Map Ever
Lurker Defense Version Me
Defiler Defense

Umm... Theres not really any Simple trigger maps. I started off with a mass type game. It was based on the game Final Fantasy IX. I made it so every one or two seconds another man would pop up around a base. I didn't get help from anyone, I just tried for weeks on end to try and find the right triggers that would make work!

I have now completed a bound map! And if you want to see massive triggers u should see that!!! tell me if you want to see it, and I'll put it up.

Ok rpg maps are like the last maps you want to make. As said up there, start with editing a map like defense maps or madness maps. Rpgs are most likely protected and hard to understand if you have just started map making.
