With the death of a loved one?
I lost my grandfather today. He was the first man I ever loved and was the one male figure in my life. This is the first time I have ever dealt with the death of a relative, and I just want to know how long it will take for my throat to unclench.

There is no set time on how long it will take you to get over the loss of your grandfather. Everyone has different ways of coping with the loss of a loved one and it all takes them different amount of time. I lost my father when I was 10 years old, and it took me a good three to four years to fully come to grips with it. If I had lost him now, I have no idea how I might react.

The best thing you can do is be with friends and family who can support you.

My grandpa died about a month ago.. It took awhile for me to get better.. You just gotta finally admit to yourself that you will never see him again.

I am very sorry for your loss, miss Torrid <3. Think about the new baby, though. One person left the scene, a new one arrived;)

I'm not trying to be a dick here but the best thing you can do is hang out with family for a while and then move on. He will not be coming back and sitting around crying about it for more then a week just makes it hurt more.

I just think that after a while it's like you're crying over spilled milk. You don't have to be like me and spend maybe a week or so and then move on with life (without forgetting the memories of course). But spending months upon months crying over something you have literally no control over accomplishes nothing.

I know.

It hurts for a long time, yeah. I still don't really like thinking about any of my dead relatives. But the best thing you can do is to try and remember the good times, and be grateful you had them. I never even knew one of my grandfathers, he died when my mom was 9.

LB, I don't think that dickly, I think you are right. You can't mope forever. It just really hurts right now. This was very unexpected, and I just wish I had more time with him.

Also my family doesn't want me there yet. I am going to my dads wedding this weekend. They said papa would have wanted it, but I want to be with my grandma. I want to help her. I feel so terrible for her.
I offered to fly out after the wedding, but they said no, just come at thanksgiving like you had planned....... when things will be happier... I guess....

If it's an open casket don't look at the body torrid, you don't want that to be the last memory you have. which it will be.

You don't "get over it". When your favorite team losses a game, you get over it. when someone dies, it stays with you.

depends on too much to say 'this is when you'll feel better'

one of my best friends died in a car accident a couple years back and i still think about it all the time, but i dont let it keep me from going on about my life as i would if he was still here

shit happen, then you die
