Two methods.

First is ineffective to an extent. Be a good poster, report spam and other crap, and dont make threads asking to become one.

Second is becoeme the friend of a staff memeber or an admin and 8/10 times u will get to be a mod. it has a higher successrate than the first one, cause if u look the best ppl for the jobs arn't on the job.

Putting these kinds of threads doesn't help. :)

But all a moderator gets a puke-green title, flood control immunity in his/her forum and access to Battle Staff (gets boring). It's more work than fun.

Which is why there is about no difference, but this little difference is all n00bs want.....

Well, threads like this won't give you much of a chance, and it can someitmes be a case of first come first serve. That's how I initially got my moderator post back in May '03. Swooper posted a thread and I was the first to PM him and I had good qualifications.

A) Don't be a spammer, spammers almost never get BStaff access or special privelages, with the exception being the spambot.

B) Do something that makes the staff feel that you would be good to moderate the forum. The keyword here is moderate. We don't get super special privelages and we're only slightly above normal members. We still have to follow the same rules as you guys, and then we have a job we have to attend ot in keeping our forum neat, clean, and serve the purpose they were meant to serve.

Hope that helped you out a little bit.

I Dunno about Mod status, but I was just curious seeing so many everyday how they got it. And yes, it helps. :)

Although it looks like a lot, it's not often we get new mods. We currently have plenty of them to go around, and usually only new ones are appointed who have either

A) Been in the spot previously

or

B) Know what they're doing and can fill in for someone who has retired.

New mods aren't generally appointed unless a current mod leaves or retires.

Yes, Ryan, but mds are usually only booted due to inactivity (The #1 reason mods are removed), or if there behavior becomes irresponsible and not the type of behavior a moderator should have.

I.E. Tweak, Teddy and Akules lashing out made them go from mods to not in 5 seconds flat.

Not to pick on you guys, I <3 you guys, just stating a fact to try and help him understand.
