Did you install the drivers?
Usually, when you reinstall windows, you also need to reinstall the mobo drivers and such that gives you access to the ethernet, usb, firewire, etc.

Maybe there is your problem. You don't have your motherboard drivers installed so it can't access it correctly. You'll need to download from somewhere else, put it on a cd, and install into your computer.
