HL2 installation woes

I successfully installed the first two cds, but the 3rd one gives me the same crap: "Error 1305. Error reading from file: C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\base source shared sounds.gcf. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it."

I tried using Steam but I keep having to start all over again. Any bright ideas?

Sounds like your missing the file "sounds.gcf". If this is the case you should untistall steam, install a fresh copy of steam from there website(www.steampowered.com), and then make sure its fully updated. When you do all this then try to install it again. If it doesn't work, come back here and I'll see what advice I can offer.
