Hero Editor help

I just downloaded hero editor from the forums section i installed it properly and the reason i downloaded it is because the forums says it can be used in battle net but when i try to load a character on hero editor its not there(as if the extension is different from .d2) well can someone please explain to me how to use it on battle net 1.10?

what do you mean i cant use it on closed? If your saying i cant use hero editor on battle net 1.10 then what can i use on it to edit my character?
