Help with updating Starcraft!!!!!

Alright here is my problem...

Havent played SC in years....so i got the fever to play it again online.

I put the cd in(v1.05b) and it installs.
I click on Multiplayer-Battle.net
Then it says i have to update my current version.
I click on the button. It downloads the patch.

here is where the problem comes in

The game crashes or closes when it says it needs to restart the application. When it does i go to blizzard. Download the patch. And when i go to begin installing..it opens then just closes..

any help would be appreciated.

download the patch itself from www.blizzard.com and install patch from the file you downloaded. sc does not need to be running while updating

Wasn't the last patch for BW?
I think I had to patch in BW before I could go in on the SC setting with the last patch.

I had some messed up problems like that while patching, try re-installing if nothing else works.

Things to check
-When installed Starcraft(usually in the programs folder), don't move the Starcraft folder anywhere else. If you want to move it elsewhere, uninstall it first.
-Take the CD out of the drive and look on the bottom side for heavey scratches or many scratches. If there are many or heavy scratches, then patching SC might not work.
-Try turning off your firewall and antivirus softwares. Sometimes they may block SC from patching because it requires internet access.
-Having programs running while patching SC may mess up the patching. So turn off all unnecessary programs
