640 = answer

1/8th of 640 = 80

80x7 = 560

I believe Sir IDefy is right on this one ShadowFury, would like a cookie?

edit

your wrong IDefy, 7/8 of them were sold, and theres 560 left now. Meaning 560 = 1/8 of tickets printed

x = how many tickets PRINTED

x = 560 + (560X7)
= 560 + 3920
= 4480

Total of 4480 tickets were printed..

cheking for answer:

LS = RS
560 = 4480 X 1/8
560 = 4480 X 0.125
560 = 560

How many tickets were printed? All. All is unknown, we call it X.
X = 8/8x = 1x ^= all
7/8x = X - 1/8
1/8x = 560 |*8
1/8x*8 = 8/8x = 560*8 = 4480 = X
4480 tickets were printed.
That is the highly extended version to understand with very basic knowledge of maths.
IDefy, you're wrong btw. 7/8th were sold, this means 1/8th equals the remaining 560.

"7/8 is 560"
And I thought Germans sucked at reading comprehension. (refer to PISA)

IDefy, you misread question

560 = 1/8

Like he said, 7/8 of tickets has been sold

And theres were only 560 tickets left. Meaning 560 is the other 1/8

Seven eigths of the ticket had been sold, and there 560 tickets left. How many tickets were printed?
Can be also written as:

7/8 of tickets had been sold, and theres only 560 tickets left. How many tickets were printed?

And Korritte, you've made the whole question too complicated, I dont think those steps are necessary, all you have to do was just put 560 + (560X7) :p

This is a perfectly good example of why I hate word problems. At least I was right in the way I thought it was supposed to be. :) Blonde moment.

...I hope you're not going to need help for every problem because your homework will take hours.

Ill do this one for you since Im bored, but I have feeling your just lazy enough not to do this, because this is like things I did in gr 4~6

495 = 101.7 + 173.8 + x
495 = 275.5 + x
495 - 275.5 = x
x = 219.5

(219.5 + 101.7 + 173.8) / 3
= 495/3
= 165 <-- answer

this is also why i urged him to shut up. all he wanted was to trick YOU into doing this fat thing of math which you couldve done in one line.
