HELP ON LEVEL 8 Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:angry---I need some help on Diablo 1, on level 8. I have gotten to Zhar the Mad and I can not kill him. I would assume that I have to because I can not go into a lot of the doors. It shows them on the map but I can't get to them. I have tried magic spells and just hitting him, but nothing has worked. Please help for I can't go any further and I was on a great roll. Thanks to any who can help!!!

Talk to him once, walk or tele around the thing, talk again, etc. etc. etc. until he fights you.

No the peace loving guy was in level 4 I think. This is a wizard and when you talk to him he gives you a book and tells you to leave him alone. Then there is a book case near him and if you open it, he says now you die and then he shoots you with fire and fades to different spots. I have tried to leave him alone but then the doors on the level are not accessable. I have tried spells and he is immune to them. I can only figure that I have to kill him somehow to allow me access to the doors that I see on the map.

Yea, that's what i meant, he gives book, go all the way around so he can't see you, talk to ihm again, and he'll give u something else, and then one more time and he fights you.
