Help On A Dedication Map

A friend of mine pasted away on December 22nd, 2002 and he was a very good friend. We played SC alot and he had alot of friends on B.Net, but recently I got my SC CD to work and I had to inform all of his friends that he passed away. After a while of arguement (because they didn't believe me) we finally decided to do something every year on December 22nd to remember him.

He died, do to a brain disease, so we decided to hold a tourny every year on December 20-22nd, depending on how many people join. There will be a 5 dollar entry fee and you will have to sign up between November 20-30th in order to compete, and even me and all of his friends will pay the fee too. The money raised will go to somewhere that does research on cures for brain diseases and the winner of the tourny will recieve 20% of the profits made.

I will be making a map in his dedication, but I don't really know where to start. I have the ending in mind and I will use my mic to say a prayer and format put it on the SCBW map and it will do some highlights of his best replays that I've downloaded and watched from all of his friends, but I need more help with it. I haven't started yet so all ideas are open for discussion.

This may sound like a scam and that I will keep the money for myself, but it's not. This was a very harsh thing for me to go through considering I knew him personally and that he lives not too far away from my house. But if you don't believe me then you don't have to join the tourny. This was a very good friend to alot of people and I and his friends will make sure he is remembered for as long as we live so please don't come to this thread critisizing or making comments like; its a scam and that I'm a liar.

That is a good idea. I wish i had motivation like you. But if it is going to have a prayer at the end, then it must be UMS. Are you seeking to do a 1v1 blizzard like map? After that i can give some suggestions. Good Luck.

Yeah, if only more people in this world cared enough to use their own time for the good of others. I think it would be better. Problem with songs though is that the map becomes massive. I made a song with Gloria Gaynor's I will survive song, and it came out to 30MB (!). Also took forever to load. I think it might have not been compressing the song file however.

I forgot about something, The UMS map I'm making will not be used in the tourny, but it will be viewed before it starts. Kinda like the National Anthem before a Football game.

Also, I like the song idea. I will put some kind of song in it while it shows the highlights.

If you could leave an address to send the check to, I'll sign up when you start taking registrations. Additionally, I'm pretty good with map editors. If you need any help at all making the map, whether trigger troubleshooting/making or terrain layout, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

So far, I think your following a good path, but I have one small suggestion.

Since your talking about the money going to some foundation, as apposed to a prize for the winner, you would probably get more people to actually participate if the money was sent directly to the charity, as apposed to some unknown person.

I'm sure that an online charity could produce some form of receipt to prove the donation, as well as a total raised for this particular cause. Maybe even a temporary web page with necessary links, and information about your friend.

It's not that there is a question of trust, so please don't take it that way.

But, I'm sure that there are those that would rather know that the money went to where it was supposed to. These are interesting times we are living in afterall.

As far as your maps go, keep us in the loop, there are many people here that can help, or give ideas.

I like the idea about the charity helping I will definatly keep that in mind.

During the tourney there will be ladder style maps, but with fastest speed and I'll try to organize it all on the site to see what time and map you'll be playing.

And about the UMS map, the site will have the map available for download and it will not be required to view, only because it will be easier to handle.

Lastly, if you pay and fail to participate in the tourney, you will get your money back. The tourney will be held on December 20-22nd depending on the amount of people that join and payments will be taken between November 20-30.

Also I would like to note that the tourney will not only be held on SCBW, I will be handling BroodWar, and other friends will be handling Regular StarCraft and WarCraft 3.

I don't want Cortalos to sticky this because he is right about how other people would start discriminating and stuff and I don't feel like putting up with anyone getting pissed because my thread got stickied and theirs didn't. It's good enough as it is and I'm pretty sure I'll get alot of help even if he didn't sticky it.
