Help game won't start

I loaded Diable 2 and everything went ok.
When I try to run it I get a blank black screen and a white blinking cursor in teh top left hand corner. I am using AMD +2500 cpu and Geforce 6600 vid card.
I have no problems playing all sorts of other games.
I am trying to load V 1.03 is this version too old.

I am doing a clean first install have uninstalled and reinstalled it a coiuple of times trying to get it to work.

I had borrowed a friends copy about a year ago and it worked fine. In the meantime I have upgraded my vid card.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are your cd's scratched?

Have you tried running it in 2d? Run the video test in the diablo folder and chose the 2d graphics.

The only thing I can see being wrong is a missing dll or file.
