i think battle net and my computer have teamed up against me, a while ago i tryed to play some online Starcraft and a new patch showed up, so i downloaded it, to find that when i tryed to get on again, it said i was not connected to the internet.....i have dsl....my internet is always on....i have turned off firewalls, restarted computer, reinstalled game several times, set back computer and redownloaded the patch several times until i finally gave up, i just reinstalled diablo 2 last night after not palying for 5 months...as i was installing it i realized that maybe battle net would do it again with diablo, but i tried to be optimistic and not worry about it, so i tryed to get online....and same msg as on starcraft came up, "trying to connect to fastest server......Cannot detect internet connection, if you are on a modem..."
i dont feel like reinstalling redling patches etc. without knowing it's going to work, anyone have a suggestion, does my computer simply need to be replaced? a certain part of it replaced? if so then it wont happen for at least a couple months...or do i need to try something else...plz help
also, i have a theory that this is related to the problem that i cant go to certain (this does not mean explicit) websites (like my email), i have three different browsers and all wont let me go to certain websites, they either come up with the page "cannot find webpage" or in the case of mozilla, a window pops up saying "the connection was refused when attempting to contact www...........", i think that when trying to connect to b.net it's the same type of connection to a website, and it just happens to be blocked like some others (happened with starcraft too)
not my internet either, since my moms labtop downstairs can go to the websites, and its not viruses or anything that can be caught by adaware or spybot

Are you using a router? If so than I would follow the advice posted here to resolve this issue. If you are not using a router than it sounds like your rents have clipped your wings.

ummmm, well this computer is connected to a dsl modem router and it is connected to a lynksis wireless router for my mom's labtop downstairs, these are the only computers in the house, sooooo iunno, does that make a difference?

(sorry for double post)
Update, dad's friend Gotham who is always the one to fix the computer said that it sounds like basically im gonna have to set everything back, in other words, set the computer back to the time when we just bought it, and stick in the recovery disks, however, if i dont....then my dad might finally be convinced to get a new one....however i reallllly wanan play diablo....which means i wouldnt be able to until pretty much spring break is over (this coming monday....) which would really suck, suggestions?

dude did u enter control panel on enter firewall settings and turned them off... and are u able to play any online entertainment games such as online checkers via msn but directly from ur pc aka start-all programs-games-online checkers. do any of these work and if they do then u can log onto bnet but as *Nevar" said earlier if u have a router then u cant do anything exept phone ur telephone provider and ask them to shut it down or to shut down their damn firewall .... if u have mcaFFe try shutting it down because it also has its own firewall system that could block other things -Peace-

heh, where do you live, i think sending it to you might be more trouble than its worth, im getting a new one within the week, its a 2002 compaq, worth maybe couple hundred dollars (also, as a 15 year old, parents little leary about trusting random people on internet, no offense, even though they say this is mine, doubt that would help me with much of an arguement heh)
yeah thought it might have been a virus, and had over a hundred, but i deleted them all and it didnt fix anything, i have adawre and spybot as well that i actively use, dont think its that, me and my friend both think its just some setting somewhere that was set off for some reason
