Okay so me and a couple of my buddies recently started a clothing company, I will post a link later.

But here is what I need help with, now that it is taking off none of us are sure on copyright laws.

Can anyone help me on what I need a copyright on, and how to get one?

also anyone know of a good business grant?

I would hope so it's there job. You need to get a business license and register with the city.

My mother knows a few people in a business like that. You can't use characters or symbols without permission of the creator. I'm not exactly sure how you get permission to do that... I think if you want to use things from, lets say Disney, you have to find the copyright. Not exactly at city hall, but you can look it up online. Even if you do get permission, it can be very expensive to use the copyright stuff, because they'll be looking at your merchandise. You have to contact the people in order to use their shit...

i thought about starting up a clothing company...i'd just use shit i made in photoshop, or other progs so i wouldn't have to go through the hassle of getting permission, but then i realized i suck, and i hate clothes...naked for lyfe!
