Heh, it's been awhile since you've been in a private channel, huh Bjornita? Actually Blizzard has restricted giving moderator status to people unless the channel begins with 'Clan' and followed by your name. You can designate people from that, however you will never lose ops. This has made it so clans must now register their own tag name to have channel ops.
Take for example my clan. Our tag is DoS_, so I had to register DoS_ as though it were a real name. Then I set it up in channel "Clan DoS_" (without the quotation marks), which is actually a bot, so I can play on b.net while my bot remains in channel to moderate everyone.
So long as I have that password to the bot, I will never lose channel ops. Blizzard did this, as well as restricted bot access to private channels awhile ago, I believe with the release of v1.09.
Bots are great in the sense that you can leave botmails (sort of like PMs for when you sign into the channel with the bot that has the mail), can kick people that say keywords like "this clan sucks" or whatever, can enable channel password protection to keep out unwanted visitors, and can lockdown channels to prevent people that aren't members of the clan from joining. There's so much more bots can do, however that is the main purpose behind them. It allows members to be able to kick annoying people, while at the same time retaining moderating status for the clan leaders, and officers.
