okay common misconception, its NOT mexicos independance day.......
the freanch and americans went to mexico to deal with debt and shit like that the americans left but the french wanted to fight. bassiclly the mexicans kicked their ass. (with some american help.. we gave them the wepons and what-not they needed to expel the french) I can't rember the exact date but it was in.... 18..something..
some spanish people say its the "day of the virgin"
