I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to put this so move it if you need to. Ok guys I know people often want to change their ip because they got banned from a game, server, etc... This is a guide on how to change it if your on cable. First off this method isnt 100% guaranteed to work the first time. But it DOES work and if if your ip does not change the first time you do it give it another try! It works for me and it worked the second time I did it.
What you need to do first is goto md-dos and type:

ipconfig /release_all

you will then see a list of gateways and stuff and it will all become 0.0.0.0

Now what you want to do is close that and turn the computer off.

After that unplug the power for your cable modem. You dont need to unplug the actual cable that recieved the connection and stuff. Just the power cord for the modem.

Now this is where patience comes in... leave your computer off and the modem for the night (overnight) or if your leaving for a long period of time (like 6+ hours) you can do this. I dont know if keeping it off longer gives you a better chance but I wouldnt think so because its all about luck ;)

After your computer has been off the whole night (and the cable modem) plug the power back to the modem and turn the computer on. Go back to ms-dos and type:

ipconfig /renew_all

Go ahead and contine with your normal activited. If you dont know how to see what your ip is you can goto http://www.whatismyip.com/ and see... Write down the one you have and after doing this see if its changed. Mine totally changed.
Anyway thanks for reading. Feel free to ask questions if you want to and I'll do my best to answer them.

you also have a big chance of having to call your ISP when it doesnt work... i had to with mine :rolleyes and it took over a week for them to come to my house and ect ect. dont do it unless you really really have to

nothing got messed up here. You see after a while of no connection the ip assigned to you will be replaced when you reconnect. But it all depends on how many are available. YOu might end up with the same ip or get a brand new one ;)
This works guys and it only takes a few hours of no gaming =)

Now to configure IP, Click on start > run>type cmd and in the command prompt type IPconfig that configures you to set a IP address & DNS settings on your computer.
That gives you a series of steps to follow that finally configures your computer for network IP address.
