Alright I play on a private server they use there own editted Patch.mpq and I was wondering if I could edit there patch to benefit me ingame. Or any file in the D2 folder for that matter. Ive tried packet editting and memory editting on the server but all with no luck. So I was hoping maybe I could do something with a file?

You need a MPQ Reader program to view the contents of the mpq. With that, you can read and write to it as you will.

MPQ is really a special zip file that holds other files inside of it.

If you hosted the server of the modified MPQ, then you can.

Otherwise, other locations won't let you online. Exception to modifications is the music files or unneccesary items.

Well I was able to modify it and still connect to server but I dont think the changes I did to the MPQ did anything

Thats because it was one of two things:

1) You modified a property that isn't a required segment
2) The server's version of said MPQ ignored the changes you made

Number 2 I know doesn't affect music. MusicPatch can change the Wav files stored inside of it and it wont have any effect on the server or the other players.

So in short theres no D2 files I can edit to benefit me ingame?
Im running out of ideas ive tried everything I can possibly think of, with no luck. =/

Correct. Unless it's your server or it is files that have no effect on the version checking, like music/sfx.

I don't see how you are playing with their modified files without having to download them first. If you are downloading the modified files before connecting, than yes it is possible to adjust them and bypass any checking they have in place. Or if you have just installed the files to your diablo directory like any other normal modification to the game, than you can also edit the file to suite your needs and be able to bypass their checking system. That's the beauty thing about privatye servers, sicne they are emulated and reversed servers of the original you can modify them in any way you want to suite yourself. You jsut need to have knowledge on how to do so. I would look into some private mods, and how to create and work them, than just go from there. I wouldn't just jump into it head first.

I was thinking more of a public server approach however. They won't let you do that.
