GMail invites?

Ok so I have a GMail account now... but I was wondering... is there something you have to do to get GMail invites? Or can only certain people get them?

I've been asking this question in every gmail thread. So I'd like to know as well.

It says in the bottom corner "invite 5 friends to gmail", or something like that.

You have to be active on your account and send/receive e-mail in order to get invites.

Thanks Korittke. I subscribed to all Asylum and Chit-Chat threads because a friend said that was how you did it, so I get a lot of stuff in my inbox daily. Now I can repay you guys for giving me a free invite.
