if you buy a merc from normal difficulty low lvl merc rather than a higher difficulty high lvl merc, then you can significantly get stats boosts on your merc

Yeah, but that takes tremendous effort to get them up high enough for each area's monsters to give them decent experience. Doesn't it?

wow i typed a long response but the explorer closed...

yeah it does take a hell of a lot of time to raise a low lvl merc to a high lvl.. much more than it takes to raise a regular character


and shadow and wing zero here you go:
when you buy a low lvl merc, it has lower stats/lhp etc.
when you buy a high lvl merc, it has higher stats/hp etc.

however, when a merc levels up, it gets +stats, +hp, +etc.
and with these +stats, a low lvl merc that is trained has significantly higher stats, hp, etc. than a high lvl merc when bought

this can help with gearing merc with godly items that it never seems to have the prerequisites for.

He's basically saying that buying a merc at lvl 11 in normal then manually building it up to a high level insures that he has stat bonuses and the like.
