That was a most interesting title...

I know a lot of people like to brag about "free medical care" or junk like that. I say we should concentrate on helping the cost go down. A government pushes "free medical care" to try and make the people think it actually cares about them. However, there are major flaws to a "free" (read: socialist) system.

The most major reason is the eraseur of competition. It is human nature to compete, to try and better oneself, but a socialist bill only introduces "do what we say or go down in flames." This is causing, rather, a disruptive effect on the economy and a steeper rise in the cost of what has lost competition.

The second major reason may well have been stated... It causes the opposite effects of what it was going for.

The third has also been stated... It hurts the economy.

The fourth reason, however, is harder to see. Socialist bills cause a dramatic increase in a countries debt.

The fifth is that politicians find it hard to get any notice unless they do or say something about increasing socialist funding. This leads directly back to the fourth reason and indirectly to the rest.

With all this said, one must be wondering how all this is "free." Well, it isn't. There is no such thing as a free ride. Somebody has to pay, and it's usually too high a price to even try to sustain. "Free" medical care could add another 10 - 15%, or more, to the tax rate.

In the end, it will slow advancement. It will rise prices. You will pay more for it through taxes than if you were to research and find the best price for insurance. There are others besides medical care, but I focused on that for an opening.

Social Security:

I can have more at retirement if I save a simply $50 a month into an IRA. I could easily have a million or more upon retirement, and that would be easy enough to live off of. You can also use stocks and bonds to save more than Social Security could ever give you, and you won't have to rely on others to make money for you.

I'd go on, but this is a long enough thread as it is... That, and the title will attract far too much attention o_O

Well, because no one else wanted to reply I will. Social sercurity I totaly agree with, it just sucks and the government it probally taking out of it, it is a much better idea to invest yourself. I also disagree with optional insurance and them "cash builder plus" schemes, geez who is dumn enouhj to fall for that. Lets say someone was paying 20 pound a month to insure a 300 pound phone. Wouldn't it be a better idea to put that money into a bank where you can earn interest on it and you still won't be paying out after you've already paid over 300 pound to this insurance scam.

Free healthcare is a good way to go. If you break your back in America you are most likely to have to get a loan or sue everyone in sight to be able to afford a operation because you won't be able to work(Health care sort of resembles communism in a way, odd..). If you get a loan you'll be paying more than you would usually because of the interest. In Canada you would be able to get a operation and continue paying taxes, I don't really know what I'm saying here :(...

Health Insurance works by having all the policy holders paying a certain ammount per month. This is based on the likelyhood of the individual to get sick or injured and the cost of healthcare. In tandom with the increased use of medicare and medicaid, insurance has slowly been forced to increase its prices to keep up with rising healthcare costs.

It may be true that Canada has "free" healthcare, but it is also true that waiting lists for even simple things, like physicals, are days, weeks, and even months long. Canadian waiting lists are so long, in fact, that I've heard of many whom buy "extra" insurance so they can avoid such lists in the US.

It is better policy to try and restrain the cost of healthcare by staying out of it. You also make sure that there is plenty of competition so that costs are forced to go down. You end up paying a lot more later down the road through taxes than you would if you researched for the proper health insurance, first.

It will get harder and harder to sustain such a system. I've already heard that it threw the UK and Canada's economy into some pains. I believe I heard that several medical providors, pharmicutical, and other health companies went under. I don't know what all happened, but they have had a negative effect, already.

I say we keep paying Doctors too much money! People who can't afford health care should just do the world a favor and die already. Heck we can use their Skins to make boot's and Wallets for Doctors.
I have no use for our bloated over priced medical System any type of reform would be better then this leach sucking at the health of our nation.
