I've been playing this for a few hours now, and despite similarity to Oblivion, I have to painfully admit to myself I enjoy it.
Alright so the combat isn't the tightest, and the VATS system is like putting a band-aid over a shotgun shell to the face, but the rest of the package is decent enough to forgive a few of the minor problems (something oblivion didn't).
The presentation and style are top notch, borrowing a 50s feel, and with the large environments this comes across a lot better than in the previous games.
Normally I don't like most RPGs, and where modern action RPGs have forgivable qualities, a game like Oblivion or mass effect tend to bore me after a bit. This hasn't bored me yet (although i can't make promises i'll make it to the end). But I have to say I'm impressed.
looking it up, the internet tells me the game won't be released for another 10 days, and hopefully by that time i'll have beaten it. So discussion about the upcoming fallout3 and anyone who wants to know something about the game before hand can ask me.
