ethics are the values and ideas we hold to right. Usually people have some kind of system that they adhere to (though they may not like to be restricted to one.) What do you think of each and which one do you fit under most times? my apologies to any ethicists if these are wrong
Divine Command Theory
Follows divine principle..
eg. The ten commandments are to be obeyed regardless of any situation.. Murder, stealing, adultery etc are NEVER acceptable under any circumstances.
the basis for this is that God is right in all situations and his precepts are always the best course of action
Situationalism
- Each situation dictates what the best course of action is.
- You can't decide on what is 'right' or 'wrong' until you are actually in the situation
- asks what is the best thing to do in each situation based on love. ..
The main issue i have with this is what you consider to be 'love' And does love for yourself come first or love for other people?
Proportionalism
asks what is the highest principle..
eg. if a girl is raped and did not believe in abortion would the highest principle be the baby's life? or he life?
Consequentialism
What will the consequences of my acitons be to me and to other people?
I would consider myself proportionalist and Divine command theorist. these all interrelate for the most part. I believe that God's command for each situation is the most loving.. which fits in with both.
